This far-flung town is the home of the Elrics, and a great deal of important events happened here. This is where Winry and Pinako live and the site of the Elrics burned down house.

| Central
Central is the seat of government in Amestris. The National Library, Central Headquarters, and Laboratory 5 are all located in Central.

| East City
Located in a backwater region near the desert, East City was the home base of Colonel Mustang and his entire outfit for most of the early portions of the manga & anime. It's reasonably close to Lior and Resembool, making it a sort of central hub for some of Ed and Al's early adventures.

| Lior
The desert city of Lior is home to a unique ethnic group who, like the Ishbalans, hold religion in high regard. They were formerly under the control of Father Cornello, the so-called "Prophet", but he was deposed by the Elric brothers, leading to a period of civil war that nearly destroyed the entire city. Rose comes from Lior.

| Xerxes
Though not much detail is known, it was a city-state east of Amestris that was destroyed long ago. As the manga depicted, the entire civilization was destroyed in a single night, with its entire population sacrificed to create the Philosopher's Stone. In the real world, Amestris was the queen of the Persian emperor Xerxes. In Chapter 74, it appears that Xerxes is the homeland of the slave boy who came to be known as Van Hohenheim. In the U.S. release of the manga, Xerxes has been mistakenly transliterated as "Cselkcess".

| Briggs
The northern base of Amestris located in a mountain range, commanded by Major General Olivia Mila Armstrong. It is a huge underground complex housing thousands of soldiers who regularly go out on patrols, as well as the centre for the development of non-alchemic weapons. Most if not all the soldiers there are extremely paranoid, accusing anyone whom they do not know of being spies from the nation of Drachma to the north. Apparently, only one incident involving patrolling soldiers successfully being attacked occurred over a period of a month about twenty years before the arrival of Major General Armstrong; the attacker was identified to be a woman, though not a spy from Drachma. Gaiden chapter "Tales of the Master" reveals that the woman was actually a young Izumi Curtis.

| Other Areas(Xing, The Great Desert, ect.) |
| Xing
Xing is the Fullmetal Alchemist equivilant of Asia, and their form of government is a monarchy with an emperor(king) on the throne. Despite this form of government the country is still divided into many different clans. Each clan is help together only by the emperor and without him the entire country would crumble into chaos. Xing's major use of alchemy is medical and some even call it pharmacy in lieu of this trait.

| The Great Desert
The great desert is an enormous desert that seperated Ishbal from Xing. In the middle of the desert lies the ruins of the city of Xerxes , which, as legend has it vanished in a single night when the people of the city tried to gain the philsopher's stone. There used to be a rail line from Ishbal across the desert to Xing but the sands covered it up and rendederd it unusable.

| Ishval/Ishbal
Ishbal or Ishval is Fullmetal Alchemist's equivilant to the middle east. The people who live there, called Ishvalans or Ishbalans, worhip their god Ishuvaru and had a strict code forbidding alchemy. A war broke out between Ishval and Amestris(which ended out to be caused by Envy desguised as a millitary person) and ended up having all of the Ishvalan people displaced and refugees and the country of Ishval becoming annexed by Amestris. Ishval, now, lies in ruins because of the Ishbal Massacre, as it is commonly refered to.

| Creata, Drachma and Areugo
Creata lies to the west and Areugo to the south. Not much is known about these countries other than the fact that they have border skirmishes quite frequently with the Amestrian Military. Drachma lies to the north and is seperated from Amestris by the Briggs mountain range. Drachma has signed a non-agression pact with Amestris.
